Monstrous Parking Needs

My husband is a very adventurous man. He loves to just get in the car and take off on random destinations. He is a little bit of an adrenalin junkie also. If you can jump off of it or repel off of it, more than likely he has done it. I did draw the line at running from giant bulls who want to trample you, but other that that I let him do what he wants. One day while I was cleaning the house my husband said that he was going to go see some of his friends. I did not think much of this until he called and said he was going to be a little later than he thought. I kept on cleaning the house and let it go. A few hours went by and I was done cleaning and had started cooking dinner when I heard a horn blowing from outside. We live on a busy street so I let it go. A few minuets later I heard the horn again. I let it go again because I thought it was just some teenagers being stupid. Then I heard the horn a third time and it just kept on going. So I went to the window to see who was out there and there was my husband waving and yelling at me to come outside. I go outside and I see a RV, my husband, and his friend Ben. I thought to myself what has he done now. He proceeds to tell me what a great deal he got on this RV from a man who was moving and could not take it with him so he was just looking for someway to get rid of it. My crazy husband of course jumped at the chance and Ben and he drove it home.

They had already planed a boys trip to the ocean and for some snorkeling. After twenty minuets of listening to my husband rattle off his plans and trips that he was planning I was finally able to get in a word. I did have a few questions but the first one was the most important. Where did he plan on parking an RV? As I have already stated we live on a busy street and our dive way is not very long. We had just enough room to park our cars and we definitely could not have room for an RV. He of course had not thought that far ahead. After thinking about our options we decided to look into the local RV storage units. We looked online so that we could find which storage companies provided RV parking spots. We found three companies that offered RV parking and looked into each unit. The first unit was a across town so we looked at it but were not really excited about how far it was from our home. The second storage company was a clean facility and was a top runner. The third RV storage unit was good but it was not as good as the second one. So we went back to the second unit and rented a spot. Now my husband has his RV and it has a place to be parked when not in use. Now if I could just get him to fix the drip in the sink.

  • Be Confident In Your Self Storage Provider
By admin on February 26, 2010 | No Comments Comments

How much experience do you have when it comes to renting self storage units? Have you ever called around for pricing before? Have you ever seen a self storage property in person? Have you ever even packed your belongings for a move? If you have never done any of these things before, then you are going to have to be sure that you do a little bit of research before you get too far along in the process. If you are not taking the time, when you have the time, to learn what you need to learn, then you might very well end up shooting yourself in the foot somewhere down the road.

The first thing that you’re going to want to do, here, is make sure that you are getting a look at your local companies before you begin to really shop around and gather numbers. If you have never even seen a self storage facility before, then you are going to have to be sure that you are getting a quick look at the ones that are in your area. By seeing them in person, you are going to be able to develop an understanding of precisely what your area has to offer, the features that really matter, and the like. Surely, you need to keep these sorts of things in mind if you are going to hope to rent a unit that will work out well for you.

Of course, you are also going to want to be sure that you are taking a look at the moving supplies that your local stores have for sale. If you are really trying to keep your belongings safe when you move, then you are going to want to be sure that you are packing them up in boxes that keep them nice and snug. Likewise, you are going to want to be sure that you are looking into actual packing supplies as well. Bubble wrap, packing paper, and packing peanuts are not an option if you want to be sure that you are keeping your belongings as safe as possible. Without these basic supplies, you are not going to be able to rest assured that your belongings are not going to break when you toss them into the back of your car.

Finally, here, you are going to want to be sure that you are beginning to develop an understanding of the rates that you are going to be able to expect out of your area. If you do not contact a lot of your local facilities, then you are not going to be looking at a very wide spread of prices. Thus, your perspective is going to be limited. Be sure, then, that you are calling around to as many facilities as you can find. Get all of their rates, and really make sure that you know what you are getting yourself into when you sign a contract.

At the end of the day, you are going to find that it is not all that hard to get a really accurate picture of your local self storage scene. And really, the more you know about your local industry, the better you are going to be when it comes to landing a unit that is really going to leave you feeling safe at night. When you know about all of the options that are at your disposal, you know that you are not going to be at risk for renting a unit that simply will not work out for your needs. Knowledge, reader, is power, and you would do well to remember that.

  • Staying Safe With Self Storage
By admin on February 22, 2010 | No Comments Comments

It is easy to forget that self storage units are, well, complicated.  Indeed, as you are calling around to all of your local facilities, a lot of the information that you are getting is going to start bleeding together.  Of course, there are a few ways for you to shop around safely and make sure that you are making a good decision at the end of the day.  Simply follow a basic protocol, here, and be sure that you are not letting your local facilities bleed together too badly.

The first thing that you are going to want to do, here, is create a spreadsheet that you can use to keep track of all of the numbers that you are getting on the phone.  Using your spreadsheet, you are going to be able to keep track of pricing information, security information, and addresses.  At the end of the day, when you are done shopping around, you are going to be able to sort through your spreadsheet and get rid of the facilities that are not going to work out well for you.

Of course, another great way to keep your local self storage facilities sorted out is to use an online mapping service to figure out which ones are actually close enough to where you live.  The last thing that you are going to want to do, here, is reserve a unit from a self storage facility that is super far away from where you live.  While you might stand to save a meager couple of dollars per month for agreeing to the inconvenience, you are going to curse yourself when you realize that you are wasting a ton of gasoline just getting to your belongings.  Thus, you are going to want to be sure that you are running addresses through an online mapping service before you commit to any facility in particular.  As you are running through them, cross the ones that are too far away off of your list and forget about them.

Finally, here, you are always going to want to be sure that you are attending site tours at the facilities that remain on your list after your filtering efforts.  As you are talking to property managers and seeing the facilities in person, you are going to want to be sure that you are keeping your eyes open for all of the security features that you are going to need to keep your belongings safe.  Thus, keep your eyes peeled for video surveillance cameras, door alarms, and access controlled gates.  As you are on your tour, be sure that you ask your property manager whether she actually lives on the property, as you are going to want to be sure that real human eyes are going to be watching over your belongings when you are gone.  While mechanical security features are a great thing to have as well, there is nothing on this earth that can replace a pair of fastidious eyes when it comes to keeping your belongings safe.

At the end of the day, you are going to be glad that you put some effort into distinguishing your local self storage providers.  While it is easy to lump them all together when you are shopping around, this proclivity is downright dangerous when you consider where it can land you.  Indeed, when you are going to trust a facility with the safekeeping of your belongings, sometimes your entire home, you have to be sure that you are doing everything within your power to choose the safest one that is in your area.  And as you can see, a little bit of shopping around can get you to where you are looking to go, in these regards.
