    Self-storage places have seen a boom in business in the last twenty years or so.  Americans are a mobile people, and last time we read anything on this subject, we found out the average family in the United States of America move about every three years.  Hard to believe to actually see one family move so much, but our own family, right here in the good old United States, has moved six or seven times in fifteen years.  We were promoted or transferred by our jobs, so we moved.  We had no children then, and moving was pretty easy for us, because the company moved us most of the time.  We have children now, and if we had to move again we would.  We are happy where we are at, but some times, you must move to benefit the family.  Do not be too attached to a place, we guess.  Moving can be quite rewarding too though.

  • Self Storage Helps You Remember the Past

    Amanda was going to take over the responsibility of clearing out her grandmother’s house. It was breaking her heart to have to agree to have her grandmother moved over into a nursing home but she could no longer care for herself and she needed more care than any of the family could give her. She needed twenty four hour care and a nurse who could make sure that she could get the right medication.

    Amanda was trying really hard to sort through everything and organize it into boxes. Her and her family had rented a Fontainebleau, Ontario self storage unit and as Amanda boxed up stuff that they family wanted or the family heirlooms that were in the house she would take them over to the storage unit.

    Some stuff like clothes and odds and ends Amanda boxed up and took to one of the local thrift stores to donate. Not everything needed to be kept. It was difficult to sometimes pick and choose what to keep and what to donate but Amanda was trying her best to get though everything.

    Each day she was able to take a few of the boxes over to the Fontainebleau self storage unit. It was slow going and tedious work and it made Amanda really sad to have to go through her grandmother’s stuff like this but it had to be done.

    Amanda was taking the last of the boxes to be donated and the last of the boxes over to the Fontainebleau storage unit today and she was glad to be almost done with the organization. Everything was out of the house now and so all that Amanda had left to work on was the last few cleaning details. The realtor had already been by to put up the for sale sign and Amanda really wanted to be out of her grandmothers house before she had to see the sign up in the front yard.

    Amanda’s family all had things that they had specifically requested to be kept aside until they could come and get those items and she tried really hard to keep those items in the front section of the Fontainebleau self storage unit until they could come and get them or find their own storage space for the larger items.

    Amanda had the key to the self storage disc lock that they had on the door so when her family members needed in to get their stuff they contacted her and it sometimes became a hassle to try to meet their times but she was really working on getting her family the stuff that they had requested.

    Thankfully Amanda’s grandmother was doing really well at her new place. They took really great care of her there and she was actually gaining a little weight and getting stronger thanks to the physical therapy that they were able to do with her. While it was sad selling her grandmother’s house and it was difficult going through her stuff and sorting it out it was made easier thanks to the self storage unit and she was so glad that her grandma was getting better. Her grandma had always been there for her when she was growing up and she was glad that she was able to give whatever she could to help take care of her grandma now in return.

    Depending on where you live and what kind of house you have, you could have a one, two or even a three car garage. It is good to have a garage for many different reasons such as storage, to park your car, workspace and also extra space usage. For many of us we like to use our garages for a place to store the things we do not want to see. It is basically our storage solution for the things that we want to keep and maybe use at a later time. The only problem is that if we look in some of our garages we will see that we have completely let it overflow with things we have not used in years. That is not what we intended for our garage.

    When we want to use for its original purpose, which is parking our car in there, we cannot because there is stuff in the way. We get frustrated at ourselves but there is nothing we can do at that time about it. We know that there is a problem and we have to remedy it. What we need to do is either find a place for all the stuff that is taking up room in our garage. There is nothing like getting caught in a typhoon of rain and we want to walk inside of our home in order to stay dry through the garage. Or there would be a time in which there is a huge snow storm and we do not want to trek through the snow. Your open garage to park your car into would come in handy if it were not completely filled with your other belongings.

    Taking the time to think about it, you have to have your car in order to get from your job to your job to your home and vice versa. So you have to get rid of some of the things that are in your garage. Where do you put them?     Byron storage places are full of stuff no one else wants or needs, I thought as I drove by yet another storage place.  In America, people buy things all the time.  One can go to a Wal-Mart and see it packed with people with full shopping carts of stuff.  Our malls are full of consumers all the time strolling around.  Jeans that cost a hundred dollars or shirts that cost fifty are everywhere.  Shoes, have you seen the cost of some shoes these days?  In my day, a good pair of shoes might cost ten dollars.  A good pair of shoes now cost three hundred dollars if a famous person’s name is on it.

    We do not want to buy any shoes with a famous name on it.  Famous people advertise these shoes, Nike, and others pay them millions of dollars to say they wear the shoes.  I wear shoes.  I am not famous though.  Shoes on my feet right now cost thirty dollars.  That was reasonable we think for shoes.  They feel fine when we walk around the mall, stores, and Wal-Marts and here we go again.  We buy and buy and a day out is a trip to the mall.  Do people in Canada love malls as we do?  I hope not.

    Byron storage places are full of stuff from malls we think too.  Is there not a giant mall in Edmonton, Canada somewhere that takes days to see it all?  Three days in a mall is like a vacation for some.  This mall is different though.  It has a giant water park right inside the mall.  The Mall of America has an amusement park in it.  We have malls near our house that have Foot Lockers and a Sears.  No giant water parks, but we guess that could be fun.  It would beat shopping for us, because we do not like to shop, but sometimes you have to.

    You have to buy food or eat out all the time.  We go to tool stores and hardware stores and buy nails.  We buy cars at car lots.  We buy clothes and toothpaste, mouthwash, and I shave, so I buy shaving lotions.  We buy pizza and corn and beans in cans.  We store all kinds of stuff in our Byron storage space now that we are in Canada recently.  We have boxes with stuff in them we can not tell you what is in them.  We packed them, and taped them up and moved them right here in our storage, but do not know what is in them.  I feel trapped by our own stuff.  We do not even know what we have in our Byron storage space.  It is not big, but carries and holds a ton of boxes and old bikes, and old tools and old clothes.

    Everything is old inside those boxes because we keep buying new stuff for the house.  The new stuff comes in the house and the old stuff is off to storage.  Can we please see the old stuff before we buy the new stuff?  We might not need the new stuff.  We do not need the new stuff.  Let us use the old bike and old golf clubs.  I do not even golf anymore!  Somebody please help me!  I am drowning.  Where is the toy train set?
