Good Management Makes Your Storage Experience More Enjoyable

    Milliken storage units are located in the great place of Ontario, Canada.  They have good managers.  A self storage manager has a lot of tasks to do, and a lot of different knowledge goes with it.  We talked about all the cleaning that must go on in this industry.  We talked mostly about the cleaning outside, taking care of the parking lots, the roll up storage doors, and stains and trash that blow on the property.  Customers when they move out leave junk and trash too a manager must clean up on a regular basis.  There is also outside cleaning to do too.  There are gutters and hallways.  There are lights to be replaced and fire extinguishers to be noted.  There are gates and fences and landscape to be kept up.  There are lawns to be mowed and bushes to be trimmed.  There are windows to be cleaned.  There are many square feet to be vacuumed or mopped.  There are counters to be cleaned and product to be dusted off and switched around.  There is inventory to be counted and moved.  There are reports to be run and studied and of course, the biggest job a self storage manager has is to rent storage units.  There has to be a certain level of sales knowledge to sell.  Very few products sell themselves unless they are a product every person wants and there is only one of them.  That does not seem too feasible unless there is a monopoly on that product.  Monopolies are somewhat controlled by the United States of America’s government, because it has to be done.  Electricity comes to mind and other things like that.  A self storage manager has to be a jack-of-all-trades and most are.  They are good sales people and good at fixing things.  It is hard to find such a combination of people in today’s very specific world.  A jack-of-all-trades is hard to find these days because to learn one thing well in today’s world is very hard in itself.  Look at computers.

    Milliken storage units located in the great place of Ontario, Canada should have good managers too.  We hope they do.  It is still hard to find them now, but the old school managers have had a run on these talents for a long time and we respect them all in this industry.  It is a very hard job at times, but it can also be a job that is fun and a little slow at times.  It does not take long to do these tasks if you are fast or learn all the short cuts.  We used to manage ourselves, and believe us; we knew all the short cuts.  We could rent a storage unit in five minutes, show the unit in two or three minutes and explain how everything works in another few minutes and the whole transaction could take under twenty to fifteen minutes.  Customers loved this because time is important, especially when one is moving.
